Farm to Code:

Taught Myself to Succeed Without Formal Education

Written by Busayo

My name is Busayo and I want to share my story with you. Growing up, I never had the opportunity to attend formal education like many of my peers. My family couldn't afford to send me to school and I had to work to support them. I always dreamed of getting an education and breaking out of poverty, but it felt like an impossible dream. I felt hopeless and thought that my future was limited because of my lack of education.

But I was wrong, I was so wrong. One day, a group of volunteers came to my village in Akure to teach computer skills and digital literacy. I was skeptical at first, but I decided to give it a try. And it was the best decision I ever made. The volunteers were patient and understanding, they took their time to explain everything and didn't make me feel inadequate for not having a formal education.

I was fascinated by the world of computers and the endless possibilities it opened up for me. I was determined to learn as much as I could and put my new skills to good use. I started by creating a small farm management system for my family, it helped us to keep track of our crops and expenses, it was a game changer for us.

The more I learned, the more opportunities I found. I started freelancing as a web developer, building websites for small businesses in my community. I could hardly believe that I am now able to contribute to my family's income and even save some money for my future. And the best part is, I am doing something I love.

I want to tell you that your lack of formal education does not define you or limit your potential. There are endless opportunities out there, and technology is just one of them. You just have to be open-minded, determined and willing to learn. My story is a testament to that.

Don't give up on your dreams, don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve something just because you don't have a formal education. You have the power to change your future, you just have to be willing to take the first step.

I hope my story can inspire you to take that first step, and to never give up on your dreams, no matter what obstacles you may face. Remember, education may not have a physical building, but it can be found anywhere, and it has no limits.
